TEX membrane is a waterproof material used in shoes and boots to keep your feet comfortable. As with rubber boots, boots and shoes with TEX membrane require a little tender loving care to retain their breathability and water-resistance.
Water repellent extends the life of shoes and boots with TEX membrane
Shoes with TEX membrane need to be treated with water repellent more often than shoes with other textiles. This is because TEX-membrane shoes are often used in wet and cold weather. To retain the water-resistance of your shoes, we recommend treating them with water repellent before wearing them for the first time and at least once a month after that.
Always make sure that your shoes carry a “waterproof” label. It is not possible to make shoes waterproof simply by treating them with water repellent.
Cleaning and storing shoes and boots with TEX membrane
TEX membrane as a material is very sensitive to heat and must therefore never be machine washed or dried. Instead, wipe down your shoes with a damp cloth.
When cleaning your TEX-membrane boots and shoes, never dry them near a heat source like a radiator or heater, or directly in the sun. Instead, stuff the shoes with crumpled newspaper and let them air-dry slowly. Remember to remove the insoles and let them air-dry as well.
